My background

I have over 25 years of experience working with all types of horses, ponies and donkeys. I developed handling and training skills during my years at World Horse Welfare (formerly ILPH - the International League for the Protection of Horses), a rescue and rehabilitation centre, with horses who had suffered neglect or trauma, and as a result, often presented complex behavioural problems.

After a short career break to have children, my subsequent time as receptionist at a busy, mixed veterinary practice involved observing lameness investigations and assisting in daily management of the patients.

I currently work as an Equine Behaviour Coordinator at Redwings Horse Sanctuary, training horses to accept husbandry tasks as well as rehabilitating semi-feral ponies to thrive in a domesticated environment.

My methods

I am primarily a positive-reinforcement trainer and use learning theory to set the horse up to succeed.

My initial approach will always be to use positive, reward-based training, where the horse is always listened to, ensuring they remain calm, confident and relaxed.

Training sessions are designed to be interesting and fun for both you and your horse, whilst being safe and consistent to reach a successful outcome.
